CAS has three strands. An experience may support one or more of them, depending on what you actually do and how your school recognises it.
Create, design, perform or develop ideas through an experience that matters to you.
Take on physical experiences that challenge you and support your wellbeing.
Contribute to a community or cause through meaningful action and collaboration.
CAS is an IB Diploma Programme requirement. Provincial graduation and career-learning requirements are separate, even when the same experience could be useful in more than one context.
Ontario students need 40 hours of community involvement for the OSSD. Your school board and principal determine eligibility and how those hours are recorded. That is separate from your school's IB CAS process.
BC Career-Life Connections includes 30 or more hours of substantive career-life exploration and can include volunteerism among several forms of experiential learning. It is not the same programme as IB CAS.
Official BC curriculum guidanceThey are not automatically the same thing. An activity or experience may support one or more CAS strands, while a CAS project has additional expectations around planning, collaboration, reflection and learning.
Read the official IB CAS project guidanceFind something meaningful. Do the work. Keep the moments and evidence that matter. Use them when you reflect on CAS or later when you need to tell the story of what you did.
See how Projects workNo. Uni X helps you find current opportunities. Your school decides whether an experience is suitable for CAS.
It may. An experience can involve Creativity, Activity, Service or a combination. Your school and CAS coordinator decide how it fits your programme.
